This movie is from the same director as Monument. And if you didn't like that film you probably won't like this one either. It's a very very slow burn with a cryptic ending. My best interpretation is that it's about rebirth. This makes some sense given the grandmother's recollections of the three times she gave birth, the fact that Nina is an adopted child and there was some odd conversation going on between her, the grandmother and Kaja. Nina says that the conversation was about bees going into lethargy much like bears do. Just look at what happened to everyone before the actual ending. I liked it. But I agree with a previous reviewer that the one horrifying moment should have been when it ended.
Felt someone's boring home movie.
The movie is so frustrating because it nearly achieves perfection. We have an hour and twenty minutes of a mumblecore flick, followed by a truly shocking, devastating & narratively satisfying moment of horror. The motivations of the character who instigates this moment didn’t need to be explained—it would be perfectly fine for the film to end on an ambiguous note. But the filmmakers couldn’t resist adding in just a few more minutes of dumb randomness that not only don’t make sense, but also undercut the impact of the gut-wrenching moment the film had so artfully built up to. If the film had rolled credits just a blink of an eye sooner, it would be a true classic, something people recommend to friends with a wry smile, knowing as they do what awaits them at the conclusion of a muted character study. But, instead, the only narrative coming out of this film is “the ending doesn’t make sense,” when it could have been “the ending is incredible!” I actually do recommend people here watch it—it’s at least interesting to see a film stick the landing and then watch as, for no discernible reason, it chooses to immediately crash-and-burn with absurdity.
How is this Horror/Scary?? I kept waiting for the aha moment and it never came and then the movie ended! Complete waste of time.
great cinematography but other than that this is a snooze fest plot sounds like it could lead to something creepy hopefully but ending is not on point. Artsy if you are into that , thank God the dog came home in the beginning, watch once or not at all you're better off just watching paint dry . I'm very open to finding good in anything usually.
