Incredible movie. I didn't expect to like it, honestly, but I loved it!

This film is truly a masterclass of acting, well-balanced characters, believable story, and incredible pacing. The unique puppetry used in "The Vourdalak" really elevate the film. In a world of CGI and AI animation, puppetry remains as one of the most underused, yet grounded and fantastical, forms of art. I love how the actors "play it straight," which makes the Vourdalak all the more upsetting and disturbing to see onscreen. The filmmakers and puppeteers did a fantastic job making this waifish, shriveled puppet look scary rather than goofy, artificial yet powerfully real in its presence onscreen. The simplicity of the film is also something that makes it enjoyable: a straightforward plot with understandable reactions, all in 90 minutes? Yes, please. All these things and more make "The Vourdalak" rewatchable.

Always looking for something new, interesting, and different in my vampire / vampire-adjacent movies and especially period horror. Loved this one, the practical effects were fun and uncanny, atmosphere was great!

I don't get all the good reviews. I've seen more exciting high school plays. Sooo slooooow . . . and pointless.
