The Dark and the Wicked

Directed by Bryan Bertino

On a secluded farm, a man is bedridden and fighting through his final breaths while his wife slowly succumbs to overwhelming grief. Siblings Louise and Michael return home to help, but it doesn’t take long for them to see that something’s wrong with mom—something more than her heavy sorrow. Gradually, they begin to suffer a darkness similar to their mother’s, marked by waking nightmares and a growing sense that an evil entity is taking over their family. A SHUDDER EXCLUSIVE.

An evil entity takes over a family in this horrifying new tale from the director of The Strangers.

Cast: Marin Ireland, Michael Abbott Jr., Julie Oliver-Touchstone

I gotta be honest, I love this movie and have recommended it a number of times. I see a lot of reviews saying the story wasn’t all there, slow etc. I really think that for a low budget horror movie… this is one of the best on this app. The ambience, the music and the setting are all there. The actors gave it their all and it shows, I also think the cinematography was awesome! I’d love for a prequel to the movie explaining why this family and their land. Maybe it’s a nod to the metal health crisis and dealing with loss? Who knows but I know this movie was awesome!

This is one of my favorite horror films. A good pick for those who care more about themes and atmosphere, and definitely not for those who care most about jump scares and a fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat storytelling. To each his own. I love Marin Ireland.

it was ok. I dunno wasn't really enough back story on the dad and the ending kinda sucked tbh

I had better expectations… you never fully understand why does it all happen to this family. I think it lacks depth and narrative. Some good jumpscares but other than that… meh
