The Babadook
Directed by Jennifer Kent
Six years after the death of her husband, Amelia struggles to discipline her ‘out of control’ 6 year-old Samuel – a son she finds difficult to love. Samuel’s dreams are plagued by a monster he believes is coming to kill them both. When a disturbing storybook called ‘The Babadook’ turns up at their house, Samuel is convinced that the Babadook is the creature he’s been dreaming about. And when Amelia begins to see glimpses of the creature herself, it slowly dawns on her that the thing Samuel has been warning her about may well be real.

Definitely a movie that may not be for everyone, but it tackles the subject of grief in a new and interesting manner.
This seems to be almost a love it or hate it movie. I found the acting from the mother and the son to be quite good; they are the ones who provide the tension throughout the movie. The Babadook entity itself I found to be poorly executed. I found it to be almost distracting, and it actually took away the tension created by the mother and son.
overrated movie.
generally good, some spooky moments, cool shots and aesthetic. the kid makes some parts genuinely insufferable
This is probably the movie that really got me into the horror genre. It showed me that not every horror movie is mindless shock value. It was a slippery slope though and I've also grown to love some of that other stuff.
