wasn't sure if I was going to like this, but it drew me in. Very sad tale of a young confused, newly married woman, dealing with demons and a new mental disorder. dark drama.
while Swallow is overall a drama and not horror, it is an EXCELLENT film, and there are a lot of horror writers and directors who could learn from the tension and psychological horror elements in this film. Are they strong enough to "justify" it being on Shudder? I don't know. I'm not sure how I feel about non-horror movies being on here, but this sure isn't one I'm going to complain about.
File this under true horror and that horror is life. Lead actress was impressive in her performance. The final confrontation was a powerful scene of catharsis from both actors. The Syrian bodyguard was a great character and the rich family were unlikeable, pompous and entitled. Great acting. A sad and emotional film. I enjoyed it and found it more grim than any ghost story or stalk and slash.
Fantastic
A fascinating psychological thriller/drama, exploring a variety of feminist themes: female rage, bodily autonomy, traditional gender roles, medical abuse, power dynamics within relationships, beauty standards, SA, etc. This is a thought provoking movie for grown ups. Ladies in particular might find this a rewarding watch.
