The reason why this cheesey slasher was so controversial back in the day is the same reason why it's now considered a classic, because, back in 1985, the very idea of holiday horror with a mudereous santa seemed like an affront to Christmas, and to everyone's childhood.
I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned in previous comments, but if you haven't seen this yet (or in a long while), I recommend skipping it and going straight to part 2. It spends the first half condensing down this movie to a better paced story, then the fun really starts with the new material, starring one of the worst actors in the world. It's a nonstop entertainment machine.
ok for nostalgia. christmas evil is better. bring it back shudder!!
NAUGHTY
I was surprised at how good this movie was despite the abundance of cheese. I like the build up to Billy finally going sicko mode, very interesting. Only complaint which is more funny than negative is the second Billy kid actor doesn't have the same eye color, guess no kid wanted to be in a slasher then. Solid start to the franchise!
