Ring 0

Directed by Norio Tsuruta

Thirty years prior to the events of Ring, a teenage Sadako is plagued by nightmares and suspicion that she's inherited her mother's psychic abilities. When she joins a drama troupe as a form of therapy, the leading actress dies under mysterious circumstances and Sadako takes on the role. As a string of supernatural events unfolds around the troupe, Sadako's latent power continues to manifest itself, paving the way for a horrifying final confrontation.

A journalist tracks a young Sadako, who uses her supernatural powers to kill members of an acting troupe.

Not a great film. The plot barely makes sense and there are so many characters that behave in nonsensible ways. (Like, why is that guy even into Sadako? What would he find even remotely attractive about her- she's pretty much just shy and creepy. Why go even there? And that's just a start. I have problems with the motivations of almost every character in this film. ) The film finally gets better in the last few minutes- but unlike the original Ringu, which has a great mystery that keeps you engaged until a surprisingly scary end, the wait here is just not worth it. Your time is probably better spent just rewatching that great first film.

Wow I'd never seen this one before and it is yes, somewhat different in tone from the earlier films, but it's incredibly beautiful and gives a fullness to our understanding of the nature of Sadako's curse. I love the Carrie-esque vibes, and I love the rounding out of what is otherwise a somewhat flat supernatural killer. The way the witch-hunt themes make Sadako's decades-long internment in the well all the more horrific, and the strength of her curse later on all the more believable and heartbreaking. Also a very well-cast and well-acted movie all around. A+.

Don't go into this expecting traditional horror, but it's still a beautiful film, albeit with a bleak outlook. If you're a fan of the original Ring, you should go into this one expecting a prequel that enhances the emotional impact of the subsequent films. No cheap jump scares here. It's a slow-burn, cerebral, heartbreaking tragedy that adds new layers to the story told in the overall series. The greatest horror to be found here is the horror of emotional trauma and unjust persecution.

ok i didnt even know this was made until today so i gave it a go. i gave it only 3 skulls for the simple fact, i have a LOT of unanswered questions. im confused at how the storytelling switches things up, some bits just doesnt make sense or add up. HONEY THE MATH IS NOT MATHING...😊 other than that i did enjoy watching it. its not to bad. i did notice one particular scene that INSTANTLY reminded me of a very important scene in Carrie.😏🥰
