Revenge

Revenge

Directed by Coralie Fargeat

Jen is enjoying a romantic getaway with her wealthy boyfriend, which is suddenly disrupted when his sleazy friends arrive for an unannounced hunting trip. Tension mounts until the situation abruptly––and viciously––intensifies, culminating in a shocking act that leaves Jen left for dead. Unfortunately for her assailants, Jen survives and reemerges with a relentless, wrathful intent: revenge. A white-knuckle tale of transgression and transformation, REVENGE gloriously blurs the lines of vengeance and survival while delivering a ferocious dissection of gender and genre. Director Coralie Fargeat announces her stunning arrival, painting a crimson canvas of hypnotic beauty and bloody retribution in this razor-sharp feminist subversion of the revenge-thriller. A SHUDDER ORIGINAL.

A young woman takes vengeance on the three married men who left her for dead in the bold, bloody debut from director Coralie Fargeat.

Cast: Matilda Lutz, Kevin Janssens, Vincent Colombe, Guillaume Bouchede, Jean-Louis Tribes

This movie is shockingly bad but fun at the same time. To say the people who wrote this have absolutely no idea in an understatement as sooo many things happen that are outlandishly unbelievable it’s a bit of a joke and well… in a movie that’s plot is supposed to be quite tense and serious. She is absolute stunning and plays a great part but walking around with a sniper scope on a shotgun just doesn’t quite do it for me. Good laugh and plenty of blood but misses the mark unfortunately.

If you are a woman and are uncomfortable and upset about how this genre always still seems to attempt to appeal to a male viewer, this movie is refreshing. If you want an actual rape revenge and you hate I Spit on Your Grave and other fetishistic and exploitative films like it, this will make you happy. I watch horror movies to watch women overcome and survive my feats. This did that. It also shows the reality of assist, there is “no perfect victim, but all assault is wrong and devastating with victims who deserve sympathy. Yo those who said she deserved it, this film was made with you in mind, and does not like you. And when I say the film is non exploitative, you do not get a long, infepth, or clear view of the assault, and the only nudity is male nudity. The film is artsy and beautiful and does well showing just how revolting the men who do this are. This movie quenched a thurst for me and made me feel an optimism about the genre. I’m very happy.
