Prince of Darkness
Directed by John Carpenter
When a physics professor and his research students are asked to come to an old abandoned church, they don't expect to find a large glass canister of swirling green liquid. As their investigation continues they uncover the shocking truth-- the ooze is really the essence of the Devil himself, and the students have disturbed his slumber! They must fight together to keep Satan and his minions at bay and prevent him from releasing his father, the anti-God, and bringing about the apocalypse! Solid movie, still holds up!
Misses the suspense that makes "The Thing" and "Halloween" so very good. Some of the camera shots are a bit strange too. Good combination of science and Gnostic ideas, though neither is particularly original by themselves.
Hot take but it's my favorite carpenter film (followed closely by Christine)! I love religion and science blended. As a person of color, I love how diverse this cast is and the lack of stereotypical characterizations. Will always rewatch when I come across it! The found footage dream sequence is so creepy and the general feel is menacing and dripping with dread. 5 skulls :)
Yeah this one rips. Solid performances all around and I love horror movies where all the characters really seem to just like each other and get along. Loved the combination of science, philosophy, religion, and horror.
Classic Carpenter - the camera angles that create a feeling of disorientation, and geometries Euclid never imagined; the use of shadows and light; interesting visuals in the background while one is focused on the foreground; and a truly unique murder weapon as well.
