The first half is slow, but the second half is gory!

i don't usually like revenge movies, and to be sure this does do some of the tropes (spoiler, and also content warning: sexual assault). that said, i like this movie a lot. the main character is amazing and is really interesting in terms of how she does and doesn't (mostly doesn't) fit the tropes. there really aren't many movies with this many amazing moments- it's incredibly earnestly and thoughtfully constructed. it's amazing in so many ways: the clarity and tactility with which it deals with food, time, shelter, community; the way it flows between extremity and moments of quiet, or gentle humanity which allow it to breathe; the surreal way it cuts from day to night mid-scene; the sounds of water; the spigots of hydraulic system-worthy blood; the otherworldly climax.

Superb. One of the best revenge movies I've seen. It's an absorbing, dark fairy tale with political, ecological and metaphysical themes. And gobs of sex and ultraviolence. The sort of movie that sucks you in and spits you out.
