Martyrs Lane

Martyrs Lane

Directed by Ruth Platt

In this unsettling ghost story, Leah, 10, lives in a large, old house with her family but can’t quite work out why her mother seems so distant. At night she is visited by a mysterious guest, who might be able to give her some answers. With a new challenge every night, Leah is rewarded with bits of knowledge that, when pieced together, threaten to shine a dangerous light on both the truth in her nightmares and of the world she lives in. A SHUDDER ORIGINAL.

Leah, 10, has terrible nightmares. Her mother seems distant somehow, lost in her thoughts. A small, nightly visitor brings Leah comfort, but soon Leah will realise that her little visitor offers knowledge that might be very, very dangerous.

Cast: Kiera Thompson, Denise Gough, Sienna Sayer, Steven Cree, Hannah Rae

loved it. slow builder but the plot was pretty great. I like spooky scary stories that feel like they could almost be worth watching with kids who like scary stories.

The entire premise of the movie is made obvious about 15 minutes in, and from there on it's just a slow and uneventful ramble to a weak and predictable ending that exudes cheese. I kept waiting for something surprising or interesting to happen considering the high rating, but it just never came. I feel like the topic should have made this a tear-jerker, which I usually enjoy mixed in with my horror, but the tone was diluted by too much off-putting religious material and a stagnant pace. I actually like slow burns, but they have to build to something, and this movie just fizzled out before it was even halfway through.

well acted, not scary, lots of plot points that didn't make much sense.
