Magic

Magic

Directed by Richard Attenborough

Anthony Hopkins plays a ventriloquist whose dummy has a murderous mind of its own in this chilling psychological horror film written by legendary Hollywood scribe William Goldman (MISERY, MARATHON MAN) and directed by future Oscar-winner Richard Attenborough (GANDHI). Famous for its trailer ("Magic is fun. When you're dead!") which supposedly was removed from TV for being too scary, MAGIC still holds up as a terrifying trip to the Twilight Zone. Fans of Hopkins' iconic turn as Hannibal Lecter in THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS should be sure to experience MAGIC.

A ventriloquist's (Anthony Hopkins) dummy has a murderous mind of its own.

while i am not on the same page as the creators in terms of attitudes about mental health, this is really quite an oddly compelling movie in a number of ways. i appreciate the craft, the density of the dialogue, the way the characters all seem to be very clever and capable as performers, but also to have their offstage infirmities. it's not profound or grand in scope, but it's very effective and well made for what it is.

Loved it. This was our 160th weekly horror watch, and I am so glad we picked it. Anthony Hopkins, Ann Margaret. . . . and Fats! The playback stutters slightly but it's most notable at the beginning of the film.

Was ok. I respect it for what is and it probably inspired other movies but not what I wanted the movie to be

Really enjoyed Burgess Meredith as Ben Greene. Interesting concept, came here through watching Primal Screen. Lightly eerie with plenty of tense moments.
