Solid movie, loved Charlie. Eugene Clark as the gas station attendant turned zombie horde leader was alright, and Romero, of course, decided to make his social commentary pretty in your face. I didn't mind, the gore was solid.
Nice I liked it. Definitely a watch.
Can't believe this movie is 20 years old already. . . . The last great Romero zombie movie. Should have ended here.
I have a love/hate relationship with this film. As a devoted fan of Romero since birth I can forgive much if the issues with this film. Unfortunately, like other Masters of Horror (looking at you Carpenter) who made some of the best horror movies of all time on small budgets, Romero was unable to translate his vision into a larger budget. Land has a lot of cool ideas but much of it comes across as campy and disjointed. Dennis Hopper is in the film simply for star power, every character has a “nickname” for some strange reason, everyone and their mother cameos as a zombie, and the zombies go from mindless to brilliant in the span of about 5 movie minutes. The whole thing is very rushed. The social commentary also feels very painted on when having it simply exist would be sufficient to understand that even in the apocalypse some people will try to control all other people. Still it’s Romero and it’s worth watching. Also, John Leguozamo is fantastic as always.
Not the best, but solid.
