Its not really a documentary which was a bit of a let down. I'd compare it closer to shows like Bravo's 100 scariest movie moments. Its a very outdated format. If a documentary for you is a director or celebrity saying I remember this movie, this scene was cool, king knows how to xyz to bring in the viewer etc. Then you will like this film. For me I can get that just drinking with my friends watching king movies. There is no discussion in how the films were different from the books or the process of adapting a book to film. There was no discussion on the process of making the films. It was a bit worse than a VH1 I love the 80s etc format. Even then they were a bit more informed in what they were talking about. A director saying how Misery made him shut his eyes at the leg break scene adds nothing. Since so little is really even brought up on the books or the stories, it really isn't even a tribute to King; it's a tribute to Directors who made films based on King's works. -2 skulls Also the politics thrown in was really unnecessary. If you're going to draw the comparisons draw them 40+ years ago when the books were written. The antagonist is meant to be the government as a whole. If this were an actual documentary they may have done research and have done that, or gone into the inspirations of why King wrote the stand. No instead its dumb thoughts like King is such a visionary that he could see into the future saw Trump/MEGA/Pandemic and wrote a book mans a genius. It couldn't have been that King lived through polio existing, he lived through the hong kong flu in 68, the russian flu H1N1 pandemic happened one year before The Stand released. Surface level research this documentary refused to do. -1 skull

If you're a fan of Stephen King, like I am, you will love this documentary. It has incredible coverage and insight of his work, the interviews give distinct details, and there's great humor and drama sprinkled appropriately in the telling. Personally, I found some of the segments prolonged more so than they needed to be. Maybe some of the talking points were a little heavy handed and on the nose. Overall, it's great. . . for someone with a passion for the King of horror.

I was not expecting it to be this good as there are a few other similar docs out there that leave a lot to be desired. But this is by far the best King doc I’ve seen.
