bro, wtf it took me three days to watch this
I really like this series as a whole, but this is easily the weakest entry so far unfortunately. The change away from found footage doesn't bother me personally, but my two main problems were firstly way too much lore-dumping; unless you've watched the whole series in a marathon you'll most likely have forgotten who and what a lot of the characters and events that are referenced here are. Secondly, the clown character from the earlier films loses a lot of his creepiness here because he's showing up constantly throughout the whole movie, it really is a case of showing far too much and the movie is worse for it. I won't say it's completely irredeemable, there are a couple of solid scares and if you're a massive fan of the series you might enjoy some of the new storyline and lore reveals, but otherwise I'd say this one isn't worth your time.
Well, I can not believe I just sat through that. That was garbage. In moving away from the found-footage format, the weaknesses of the cast's skills are painfully apparent. The scares don't work at all. The make-up effects can't seem to find their footing. And a story that should have brought together plot points from the earlier movies only tentatively does so. This will be the end for me of an only marginally entertaining franchise.
really enjoyed this
loved the departure from found footage! so much space for grounded performances and extended suspenses. i love the way this series is evolving
