Don't Go in the Woods
Directed by James Bryan
In James Bryan’s 1981 slasher favorite, a group of obnoxious campers are stalked and killed by a bonkers backwoods brute. Unlike other slashers, DGITW wastes no time getting down to business with a series of gory guttings that continue in relentless fashion until the final frame. Banned in the UK and panned by critics, the film has many defenders today, including horror historian Stephen Thrower, who writes, “DGITW is cheap, gruesome, and yet operating on some sublime atavistic pleasure-frequency....I just wish it had been a hit. Can you imagine Part 2?” Contains violence and gore.

Taken at face value, sure, it ain't great. But the story of how DGITW got to be made at all - between salvaging scraps of discarded film stock to filming brutal kill scenes on the weekends with friends - is the real heart here. And before Jason was turning sleeping bags into body bags, Bryan did it here to the oddball dialog stylings of "take that, you bag of bitch!" Fun watch for fans of hillbilly horror.
Hyped as kinda crappy, but hey, I’ve seen so much worse. Virtually plot lite and blood & guts heavy. Through in a sixer of beer and it’s a party!
This movie is known for its epic musical score and Shakespearean dialog. Experience such quotable lines as “I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.,” and “Huh?”.
Nachos : extra corny and cheesy! I love this movie, beautiful nature images, silly acting, incoherent story, lots of blood, a real 80s treat! Très divertissant! :-)
This movie is messed up!! But the ending song is the best!!
