Children of the Corn

Children of the Corn

Directed by Fritz Kiersch

A couple must escape from a town of evil kids in this Stephen King short-story adaptation that spawned seven sequels. Burt and Vicky (Linda Hamilton) are traveling through Nebraska until an accident leads them to a town where twisted tykes obey a kiddie preacher (John Franklin, THE ADDAMS FAMILY's Cousin Itt) who demands all adults must be sacrificed to an evil entity who lives in the cornfield. Mixing elements of the '70s horror classic WHO CAN KILL A CHILD? and Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery", COTC is a must-see for any fan of King's tale and '80s horror.

Stephen King’s best adaptation into film since The Shining. Scared me half to death as a kid. Still scares me as an adult. Great scenery and great characters. Must watch.

Somewhat implausible, but great 80's horror. More realistic than Cameltoe Harris.

I was working in a movie theater during seminary in Illinois when this came out. Really didn't care for it. Yes, it was corny. Sorry. The little fade to black pauses in the film are particularly annoying. A couple of funny things in the film. As the lead couple, Burt and Vicky, are driving, I believe the Stephen King anthology, Night Shift, is on their dashboard, the anthology that has "Children of the Corn" (though it first appeared in Penthouse. Also, when Linda Hamilton's Vicky meets Sarah, she tells her it's a beautiful name. "Sarah" would be Hamilton's name that same year in "The Terminator".
