Cannibal Holocaust

Cannibal Holocaust

Directed by Ruggero Deodato

A documentary crew get on the bad side of the cannibals they're filming in this gruesome exploitation classic. A researcher recovers footage a crew of filmmakers shot before they disappeared. But when he watches it, he sees horror far worse than he imagined. Made in 1979, but not released here until 1985, this controversial film quickly became a grindhouse smash. But it's biggest impact on horror is surely its innovative found-footage conceit, which led to the emergence of an entire subgenre in recent years. Vegetarians beware: the animal violence is very real.

CH is the OG of FF films. It is over-the-top in its portrayal of the “savages” but “that” is what makes the movie even more polarizing; in the fact that the real villains are the documentarians themselves. If you are a true Horror Fan you should consider this a “right-of-passage. ” All of US must witness the “genius” of FF story telling.

There's really only 2 ways you'll see this movie. Either you'll go in knowing how legendarily this movie was reviewed back in the day; the director getting arrested, the movie continuously being banned, the real animal deaths on screen and being one of the leading contributors to both found footage and mockumentary films. Or you'll simply hear this movie is one of the goreast most grotesque films ever made that was banned worldwide and your morbid curiosity tells you to press play. I was the first matter, though I didn't know about the on screen real animal deaths. Going into the movie knowing the stories about it helps appreciate what it accomplished for its time. The acting isn't great, but that's part of its time. I also went in thinking this was solely found footage and was pleasantly surprised to find it more of a mockumentary. Is the film good nowadays? Yes, I still think it holds up and the lore behind the film only makes it a more entertaining watch.

It's an old-school sexplotation film . with a good overall feeling to it. if the watcher can sit back and see it for what it is, it's a deep look at what is. You will find a just dessert ending along with the understanding of tribal social norms based on old understanding. if you are easily offended or forced sexual acts, leave too much of a sour flavor in your mouth. i don't recommend watching if you can stomach those, then it's an interesting movie i highly recommend .

Vile. Seriously vile. Don't watch if you can't handle what's in this movie. I watched out of curiosity because I was surprised to see it on Shudder. But holy hell this is tough to watch.
