While there's a place for horror and fantasy that have very clockwork, "if this/then this" magic systems, it's not how magic and ritual was actually practiced by the Egyptian and Greco-Roman magicians whose work went on to influence grimoires like The Book of Abramelin and The Key of Solomon. _A Dark Song_ is itself a ritualistic meditation on what it means to request something you shouldn't have access to, and the costs associated with that-- but it's also the closest thing I've seen on screen to the magic humans actually developed and (tried to) practice centuries ago.
This was very entertaining. I was surprised by how good it was. I’ve seen it twice now.
Absolute Brilliance, Best Representation of Playing around with the Occult! Perfect Ending, Genuinely Terrifying!!!
Best English movie in this category. Don’t know how it isn’t 5 stars. You have to watch the whole thing. Excellent and beautiful.
