13 Ghosts
Directed by William Castle
A professor moves his family into a house containing hidden treasure and 12 ghosts of varying shapes and size - including a decapitated man, a killer chef and a flaming skeleton. All 12 spirits have been held prisoner in the house and must find an unlucky 13th ghost to free them. Will it be a member of the family? Or maybe...YOU? William Castle’s wonderfully silly spookfest featured one of his goofiest gimmicks: Illusion-O, an altered 3-D viewer that allowed audiences to amplify or opt out of seeing the spectres depending on their fear levels. Essential SHUDDER.

As a 6- or 7-year-old I caught this showing one afternoon on the local UHF station (Channel 19 in Cincinnati, OH). It absolutely traumatized me -- I can still remember having nightmares about it years later. Somewhere along the line that trauma morphed into a lifelong love of supernatural horror, especially featuring ghosts. Many thanks, Mr. Castle. I think.
Boo! No good! Upload the original version with the color sequences! Every well-adjusted household has at least one pair of red/blue 3D glasses sitting around. That's all you need, and that's the only thrill of this stagey, dull movie. It's no "The Tingler" or "House on Haunted Hill". Just a gimmick movie without the gimmick. Skip this and find the DVD. It even includes a couple of viewers.
That was some fun for everyone. I usually don’t like old movies, but I watched this out of respect because I LOVED the remake. This one didn’t disappoint, either. Good entertainment.
so good!
Very enjoyable, silly fun.
